Climate change has become a global issue that increases the risk of various natural disasters, including floods. Throughout the world, the emergence of extreme weather phenomena caused by climate change has had a significant impact on rainfall patterns and sea level heights. Indirectly, this increases the possibility of flooding, both land and floods caused by tidal waves from the sea. One of the main impacts of climate change on flooding is an increase in the amount of extreme rainfall. Statistics show that many areas have experienced a spike in annual rainfall. The increased intensity of rain causes rivers to overflow, creating the risk of urban flooding affecting nearby communities. In addition, these floods can occur in a very short time, known as flash floods, which have a more devastating impact. Rising global temperatures are also accelerating the melting of polar ice and glaciers in various parts of the world. This decrease in ice area contributes to sea level rise, which in turn increases the risk of coastal flooding. Major cities around the world, including Jakarta, New York, and Mumbai, are particularly vulnerable to these effects. If there are no appropriate mitigation measures, these cities may face more frequent and severe flooding in the years to come. The socio-economic impact of flooding caused by climate change is very significant. Families living in flood-prone areas often experience loss of property and livelihoods. This also affects the agricultural sector, with waterlogged soil damaging crops as well as critical infrastructure, such as roads and bridges. Many developing countries are not financially or structurally prepared to face this disaster, worsening the health and safety conditions of their citizens. Climate change is also changing population migration patterns. In the search to escape destructive floods, many individuals are forced to move from their places of origin to safer areas. This phenomenon can create social tensions and increase demands on resources in new locations. Handling the problem of flooding due to climate change requires global collaboration. Local and international initiatives, such as the development of green infrastructure, early warning systems for floods, and public education, are important to minimize negative impacts. With the right strategies, humans can be better prepared to face the challenges brought by climate change, reduce the risk of flooding, and protect life and property. Implementing sustainable practices and wise resource management is also an important step in dealing with the threat of flooding. Reducing carbon emissions, water conservation, and developing environmentally friendly cities can contribute to mitigating the impacts of climate change. Overall, understanding the relationship between climate change and global flooding is critical to building resilience for the future.
